TSGT Paul W. Young served during WWII, enlisting in the Army on June 14, 1940
through October 16, 1945. Paul fought at Normandy, the Rhineland and in North
France with the 3rd Battalion, 313th Infantry Regiment. He Received three Bronze
Campaign Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service
Medal and Europe-African-Middle-Eastern Service Ribbon. His Buddy, Ronald Leon
Dawson, asked Paul to take care of his wife if he didn't make it home. Dawson
was killed at St. Lo on July 10, 1944. Paul came home and married Dawson's widow
Sally. Paul served in law enforcement in Lenoir County for many years, first as
a motorcycle policeman and later as a Lenoir County Alcohol Beverage Control
Officer. They had two sons, Paul Jr. and Lawrence.
