Staff Sergeant Herbert
Willie Singleton proudly served the United States of America as a member of the
United States Army from January 18, 1943 through September 5, 1945. He served in
Northern France and Central Europe during World War Two. He was assigned to
Company B 320th Infantry Battalion as a machine gunner.
His awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Medal and the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars.
Herbert was born and raised in
Lenoir County, North Carolina. He married Margaret Philyaw 1946. They had one
child, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Herbert lost a courageous
battle with cancer in June nineteen ninety-seven.
