Herman H. Mc Lawhorn joined the Hookerton Volunteer Fire Department in 1956. At that time the Department consisted of a town and rural department. Later, a rescue squad was added. Herman  was on of the founders of that squad. Over the years he became the Assistant Chief of the rural department. He served on the Greene County Fire and Rescue Association Board until he moved to Lenoir County in 1969. Herman is a retired army veteran.
