The Purple Heart
SSGT Jimmie Lloyd Mc Bynum entered the US Army from Kinston, North Carolina.
He served in Vietnam with the Special Forces Unit Detachment B-52 (Project
Delta) Headquarters Company, 5th Special Forces Group from October 11,1965 until he was
killed on October 21,1965. His death was by hostile small arms fire. His name is located at panel 02E, line 131 of the Vietnam
Memorial in Washington, D.C.
His awards include the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service
Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
