Sgt. Chancy Baker, Jr. was born on December 8, 1929 to Chancey and Hattie Jones Baker. He attended Kinston and Lenoir County Schools.

Sergeant Baker was drafted on January 9, 1951. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. After basic training, he was posted to Company F, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea. Chancey returned to stateside in April 1952. He was stationed at Fort Bragg until he was discharged in October, 1952.

Sergeant Baker's awards include The Combat Infantry Badge, The Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Medal, The Korean Service Medal with three bronze campaign star devices, The United Nations Service Medal and The Korean Presidential Citation.

Chancey worked for Firestone until his retirement. He married Elaine Moore Baker on October 10, 1953. They now live in Kinston. Their sons are Eddie, Terry and Kent Baker.
